Doctor’s Profile
Dr Gwee is Consultant Gastroenterologist at Gleneagles Hospital with special interests in the management of irritable bowel syndrome, chronic constipation, persistent diarrhoea, Helicobacter pylori infection and reflux oesophagitis. He graduated from the National University of Singapore in 1985, undertook postgraduate training in the United Kingdom and Canada, and obtained his PhD from the University of Sheffield for his thesis on post-infectious irritable bowel syndrome.
Dr Gwee’s research on irritable bowel syndrome has been published in international journals like the Lancet, Gut and American Journal of Gastroenterology. Dr Gwee is a reviewer for prestigious international medical journals including the Lancet, Gastroenterology, Gut and American Journal of Gastroenterology. He is on the editorial board of Journal of Gastroenterology & Hepatology, associate editor of Journal Neurogastroenterology & Motility, editorial board of Indian Journal of Gastroenterology. He has been regularly invited to speak at international scientific meetings including the World Congress of Gastroenterology at Montreal in 2005 and the Joint International Neurogastroenterology & Motility Meeting which will be held in Boston in August 2010.
Dr Gwee holds appointments as Adjunct Associate Professor of Medicine at the National University of Singapore, Scientific Chair of the Asian Neurogastroenterology & Motility Association, and a member of the World Gastroenterology Organisation’s IBS Guideline Review Team. He is also the founding President of the Irritable Bowel Syndrome Support Group in Singapore, and a member of the Asian Honorary Editorial Advisory Board of MIMS Guide. He is the lead author for the Asian Consensus on the Irritable Bowel Syndrome.
